Breast cancer is the leading cancer among Jamaican women despite the fact that it can be detected early and treated in order to return to a happy, healthy life. Let us as women take control of our own lives by educating ourselves to promote early diagnosis and screening. This weekend I challenge you to watch a YouTube video or even do a simple search on Google on "How to do a Simple Breast Self-Exam!" And as we get older, let’s try to incorporate a mammogram as part of our lifestyles to keep the momentum of self-care alive.

Danitra Vance tells us “Survival is not so much about the body, but rather it is about the triumph of the human spirit.” From this, we realize that it is of the greatest importance that we acknowledge and salute our Breast Cancer survivors who have triumphed in their own personal battle with this illness. They remind us that as women we are resilient, and we are able to turn our 'can’ts' into cans and our doubts into plans. Be uplifted by their stories and encouraged to take the necessary precautions to avoid it altogether.

Celebrate your womanhood today and let’s get Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
